ARMAC launches its Friends of ARMAC (FoA) Network

Phnom Penh, Cambodia (21 September 2021) — The ASEAN Regional Mine Action Center (ARMAC) together with the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia are organizing an inaugural launch of the Friends of ARMAC (FoA) Network.

The launch will take place on 23 September 2021 at the Ballroom of the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam in Cambodia.

The FoA is an initiative proposed by former Ambassador of Viet Nam to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and 2020 Chairman of ARMAC Steering Committee Mr. Vu Quang Minh. His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn together with 2020-2021 ARMAC Steering Committee Members supported the initiative.

The FoA aims to engage, whilst informally, development partners and donors, as well as the private sector to promote and support ARMAC’s work, either in the form of financial or technical assistance, or both. ARMAC Steering Committee believed that enhancing the spirit of ARMAC’s collaboration and partnerships is the way forward to strengthen the Center’s profile.

The FoA also aspires to build on ARMAC’s ongoing engagements with relevant stakeholders as well as expands its working relationship to deepen regional outreach on humanitarian mine action.

ARMAC is a center of excellence under the ASEAN Security Cooperation to encourage the efforts to address landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW) for interested ASEAN Member States (AMS). The Center aims to collectively tackle the humanitarian aspects of landmines and ERW through an integrated approach of experiences sharing, skills training and other capacity building activities.
